INDIA PAKISTAN AFTER BIN LADEN:

INDIA PAKISTAN AFTER BIN LADEN:

Much is discussed about Osama Bin Laden’s assassination. It is time to move on with reference to the future India Pakistan relations. It is primarily because Osama was an enemy number one of the US. India was not on the immediate radar of Osama. So this action is a victory of United States of America. India is free to congratulate the US on this victory. However, now the time has come to ponder on the further India Pakistan relations. It is because this has really made a huge impact on Pakistan’s testimonial.

There are few factors that question about Pakistan’s credentials in today’s International Relations.

1) Abbotabad is few kilometers away from Pakistan’s Capital Islamabad. Bin Laden was staying 800 meters away from the military base of Abbotabad. Hence it is hard to trust that Pakistan did not know where Laden was. Even a child will not believe on this. So an age old lie of them is disclosed

2) As Mr. Parvez Musharraf has rightly said, this is an erosion of Pakistan’s sovereignty. Now, what is Sovereignty? Sovereignty means being the boss of our own house so no one else can interfere in. If this action was without the consent (or even awareness) of Pakistan, then this has seriously put a question before the very existence of Pakistan as a state. It is because sovereignty completes the creation of a state.

What happens when a nation goes through a situation like this?

A) People lose confidence on the state. If the primary requirement of a state is to protect territorial borders and public life then this act can misplace the government’s qualification on this front.

B) This can create among feeling among the citizens about the government failure. Hence this can incite them to revolt against the state, that too in extremist manner.

C) Remains of formerly powerful terrorist organizations may unite them for counter attacks.

As a result, in today’s juncture, it will be difficult to deal with country like Pakistan.

Once again the US has certainly proved her credentials as a superpower. However, it must be believed that she is working on her foreign policy that is only for her National Interest (roughly, maintaining sovereignty, national security and economic development). It has nothing to do with India’s national interest (and it is rightly so). So India’s relation with Pakistan has to a matter of India’s concern only.

The US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton reportedly said that the US will not reduce any aid to Pakistan. This is absolutely suitable for the US foreign policy. It is because, for maintaining hegemony in central and west Asia the US has to pay attention to Pakistan and no to India’s National Interest.

In this situation India has to deal with the Pakistan on her own because after Osama chapter, the US national interest may be different and further away from that of India. In order to deal with Pakistan there has to be some realism. If Pakistan supports terrorism in Kashmir under the name of ‘Jihad and war of freedom’, then India on the one hand has to be hard with the terrorism and simultaneously she should convey Pakistan that such acts will be dealt only with zero sympathy. Pakistan says that they are the victims of terrorism. But that is not our concern. It is because, our concern is Pakistan. Hence we should keep convincing the world that finishing Bin laden is just a symbolic victory. Nothing is alright Till Pakistan shelters Dawood Ibrahim, Hafiz Saeed and the entire ISI LET like terrorist camps. This will be a diplomatic challenge for us. This will be the ideological fight against terrorism.

The most importantly the aspiring superpower should behave like a super power and should not feel guilty of it. But thinking about religion of a terrorist (Aafzal Guru) while punishing him makes a state soft. This softness is of no use even if the current superpower’s national interest coincides with that of our. Bin Laden is gone. Now next fight is our.
